Napa Valley. The Bluestone Merlot is grown in the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley. Vineyards on this mountain are prized because their tight vine plantings and shallow topsoil induce small yields of super concentrated berries. Bluestone Merlot is a wine made from such conditions, showing off a deep purple color with slight hints of blue and red around the rim. Aromas of blackberry, cherry and plum dominate. Tight tannic structure and a slight touch of oak make the finish round and smooth. Because of the perfect balance of fruit, tannin and acidity (due to cooler Mountainside temperatures), the Bluestone Merlot is a wonderful food wine that is very versatile making it a great match for roasts or game birds.

Napa Valley. 2005 was a seminal year in California, recording the largest crush in state history. While this is something to celebrate, the winemakers had to make sure they pruned heavily to ensure their grapes did not get diluted. This was the challenge for winemaker Reed Renaudin, who was constantly in the vineyards pruning his Cabernet vines. Luckily for him, the 2005 season was long and even allowing plenty of time to accomplish his mission and to allow his grapes to ripen on their time. The result is a stunning 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has a dark fruit component throughout its aroma and palate and was also strong enough to integrate 20 months of 100% French Oak aging. It is wonderfully well balanced and enjoys a very pleasurable finish, along with room to age for another 7-10 years.
